This small but beautiful book is a must for every Mason who has wondered about how to make his involvement in the Craft more relevant and applicable to his daily life.

Each page in this delightful publication consists of a short quotation either from the Ritual itself of from other related sources. These may be poetry or prose, from philosophers, scriptures, or well-known figures. The daily quotation is then followed by a consideration of the deeper meaning and implication of the text for a Freemason.

The author considers Freemasonry to be a Spiritual path in the tradition of the Ancient Mysteries and so the ‘meditations’ consider the meaning and practical application of Freemasonry from this point of view. They are primarily concerned with the question of how we can use our membership of the Craft as a tool to aid our Spiritual growth and development to make ourselves better men and the world a better place.

Although designed to be read a page a day and as a focus for inner contemplation, the book has other practical applications. It would be hard to think of a better book to give to a newly-initiated Mason to use as part of his induction into the teachings of the Craft. It is a book that demands that Freemasonry is taken seriously as a positive force for good in the world. Senior Brethren in the Lodge would therefore do well to consider it as a vital part of any Mentoring programme.

Those who are called upon to give after dinner speeches – toasts and responses at the Festive Board, for example – and who want to make their speeches meaningful, will also find a wealth of material here. This includes all of us who are, or who soon will be, approaching senior office. Using one of the ‘Meditations’ as a basis, even those who find public speaking a challenge will find that they are able to craft a fine speech that is not only meaningful but memorable.

Of a size small enough to fit conveniently into a regalia bag or even a pocket, this is not just a book to be left at home on the bedside table but is one that will become an invaluable and constant companion to every thinking Mason.

It may be small, but it’s great!
